THE STORY

Red Polls are an old English breed which has thrived in both the United States and Canada. Initially a dual purpose breed, used for both dairy and beef, they have become, over the years, primarily a beef breed. Nonetheless, their dairy heritage means they still produce more milk than other beef animals and their calves grow quickly.

They are ideal for today's commercial or hobby farmer as beef animals, as a back yard milk cow or to add hybrid vigor to a herd. They are naturally polled and moderately sized. These wonderful beasties thrive on grass, produce plenty of both milk and meat, and are quiet, docile and easily managed. Their temperament was what sold me on the breed. Twice I have entered pastures of field cattle who had never been handled and walked right up to several old cows, stroking their sides. One sweet cow even nuzzled me affectionately. Their affable personalities are of prime consideration, whether you are a hobby farmer or beef producer.
